Part of the fun of riding around is seeing all the sites.  Here are a few pictures I've taken, with the GPS coordinates too, so you can find them yourself if you want.  Click on the GPS coordinates to view a map of the area.  None of these are of anything important, just interesting (to me anyway).  Most of these places are near south central Virginia or north central North Carolina.

gas_station.jpg (74153 bytes)
Old Gas Station
N36 42.159' W79 31.420'
It would be really neat if the pumps work, but I think they're just for show now.

abandoned_wheel.jpg (113075 bytes)
Old Water Wheel
N36 48.268' W79 32.604'
Looks like there was an old mill here, and when they tore it down they just left the wheel where it was.

iron_bridge.jpg (100485 bytes)
Iron Bridge
N36 33.534' W79 44.757'
I don't know why I like this bridge, I guess because there's just not many of them left.

tobacco_barn.jpg (114515 bytes)
Tobacco Barn
N36 52.837' W79 31.447'
Around here, these things are everywhere.  Farmers once used them to cure tobacco in.

stoney_mill.jpg (61693 bytes)
Stoney Mill
N36 38.368' W79 32.663'
I believe this place is completely shut down now, but it's still interesting.

klr_monument_full.jpg (121699 bytes)
Patrick Henry Marker
N36 40.046' W79 46.734'
This marks the estate of Patrick "Give me Liberty or give me death" Henry where he lived from 1778 to 1784.

tomahawk_mill.jpg (74286 bytes)
Tomahawk Mill
N36 52.929' W79 32.387'
This old mill doesn't actually work right now, but they're restoring it.  They sell wine there too.

Old_tractor.jpg (109628 bytes)
Old Tractor
N37 03.179' W79 50.455'
That's an old tractor.  You can tell because it's all rusty.
blkbottom_falls.jpg (105664 bytes)
Blackbottom Falls
N36 29.745' W79 47.096'
Not the real name, but that's what I'll call it.
james_river_overlook.jpg (112734 bytes)
James River Overlook
N37 36.793' W79 25.927'
There are some spectacular views on this stretch of road along the James River.
natural_bridge_entrance.jpg (74636 bytes)
Natural Bridge, VA
N37 37.750' W79 32.608'
They should call it Tourist Trap Bridge instead.  Apparently, you can't even see the darn thing unless you pay admission.  What a shame.
va_sr609.jpg (101248 bytes)
Virginia SR609
N36 46.537' W80 22.753'
This beautiful stretch of road winds its way up the mountain from Rt.8 to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
im_akers.jpg (80139 bytes)
Old I.M. Akers Store
N36 44.454' W80 15.030'
Interesting old store, but it's closed now.
mayberry_trading.jpg (75257 bytes)
Mayberry Trading Post
N36 42.656' W80 26.513'
Another interesting old store along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This one is open.
mabry_mill.jpg (103272 bytes)
Mabry Mill
N36 45.011' W80 24.341'
Probably one of the most photographed spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
kendalls_store.jpg (80882 bytes)
Kendall's Store
N36 45.777' W79 41.752'
I don't know why I think old stores are cool, but here's another one.
uwharrie.jpg (107850 bytes)
Uwharrie Forest
N35 25.762' W80 01.357'
Lots of trails here, but a 4-wheeler is much better suited to the steep hills and large rocks.
stream_crossing.jpg (111111 bytes)
Stream Crossing
N37 03.758' W79 49.042'
This is what I love about Virginia. This is actually a road. They just left the bridge out, that's all.
clements_tractor.jpg (75735 bytes)
Clement's Tractor
N37 05.597' W79 51.288'
This place looks like it was probably a mill at one time.
morehead_falls.jpg (117816 bytes)
Morehead Falls
N36 30.250' W79 45.591'
Again, not the real name, but that's what I'll call it.
